I was born and raised a JW. I left because I noticed major changes in doctrine, taught never to question or bring up "Old Light" (former publications). I couldn't wrap my head around disfellowshipping and shunning former members as showing "Christian Love" and protecting the "Flock".Yes, never having gotten baptized before leaving does allow you some loop holes, though not all people abide by that. Not being a witness or never getting baptized can make you a bad association and earn you the shunning just the same.
