You can build most of your base on the desert mountain top with a ramp and gate into the north. H6 is also lots of fun if you want a vertical base - start at the top and expand down into the canyon. On an official server my wife and I built a long skinny base from H6 to H8 with a safe highway open to noobs to travel along. Anywhere outside of Rocknose purge range. The Mid-game is for collecting thralls. The best spot for thralls is Sepermeru with the Mounds of the Dead in second place. If you are set on a tree house base, the Crowngrove splits the difference.
